Description:
Professional Rehabilitation Teachers work with individuals to teach alternative techniques of doing everyday activities. Services are usually delivered in the individual's home. Services may include: travel and cane skills, communication skills such as writing letters and checks, telling time and reading Braille. Additionally, staff teaches alternative ways to complete tasks and participate in leisure activities with vision loss. When needed, staff will introduce assistive technology devices (talking devices) and provide training in their use.
Professional Rehabilitation Counselors provide guidance and deliver services that allow participants to make choices in selecting occupations. Rehabilitation Counselors also assist with providing services that lead to meaningful employment in a broad range of careers.
Services may include: vocational counseling, job development and placement, skill training at the job site, vocational and post-secondary education and ophthalmology services.
Payment Source: Free, Self-Payment. Eligibility for services requires the person have a significant vision loss; the person requires services to improve their ability to live independently or obtain or maintain employment and can benefit from services.
