Description:
We provide simple, decent, and affordable housing to low and very low income families living in sub-standard housing.
Eligibility requirements include: 50% and lower of area median income (AMI) for Minnehaha/Lincoln county; living in sub-standard housing; willingness to partner by doing sweat equity. Chosen families make a down payment on their home by completing sweat equity hours. Families then purchase their home from Habitat and make a monthly mortgage payment.
The Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) Program provides exterior painting, yard work, door and window caulking and minor exterior repairs for qualifying low income homeowners who are having difficulty meeting the costs of maintaining their home. For a project to be accepted in the NR program there must be a demonstrated need. The homeowner must have the ability to share the cost of the project with Habitat. The homeowner and/or others residing in the home must partner together, working alongside Habitat volunteers on the project. Labor for projects is provided by volunteers, so project selection is in part determined by what volunteers are willing to do and are capable of doing. The Neighborhood Revitalization Program does not cover the following: roofing and gutter work, full replacement of windows and doors, siding replacement, plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilation or air conditioning (HVAC), insulation replacement, or any interior work including drywall, lawn mowing or snow removal.
