AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAMS -
Five programs offered:
1. Single family Rehabilitation Program to fund repairs on owner occupied single family residences. Repairs are anything to bring a home to code levels.
2. A Mobile Home repair that has a limit of $2,000 to do repairs only on owner occupied mobile homes.
3. The Safety and Home Repair Grant program provides financial help to low-or-moderate income households for home repairs. This short-term program has limited funding and will end on December 31, 2024, or when all of the funds have been obligated to homeowners.
4. Rental Rehabilitation Program - Financial assistance is available for rental owners to maintain and repair their properties within Sioux Falls city limits. The Rental Rehabilitation Program provides low-interest loans for needed materials during a renovation.
5. Providing Home Assistance for Public Safety
The Public Safety Down Payment Assistance program bolsters home ownership opportunities for police officers, firefighters, and other public safety employees.
This program is also designed to stabilize and promote safety in at-risk neighborhoods, by encouraging those with law enforcement and fire rescue jobs to own and live in Sioux Falls.
Assistance Details
Each applicant can receive up to $20,000—or 20 percent of the purchase price (whichever is less)—toward the purchasing of a home.
Program funds may be used for down payment and/or closing costs and prepaid items. Prepaid items may include but are not limited to:
- Upfront mortgage insurance and mortgage insurance reserves deposited with the lender as required by the first mortgage provider.
- Property taxes deposited with the lender as required by the first mortgage provider.
