Digital Literacy
GROW South Dakota has implemented a new program called Digital Literacy. In this program, GROW South Dakota is offering FREE options to renew or expand your knowledge of the digital world. We have multiple courses to fit a variety of needs and can also work with you on a one-on-one basis. The NorthStar program offers classes on: Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows, Mac OS, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Docs, Social Media, Information Literacy, and Career Search Skills. These classes are self-paced and can be retaken if needed. If you would like a certificate GROW South Dakota can proctor the test at the end of the course. Emergency Services
GROW South Dakota can provide a onetime emergency assistance grant to help individuals/families pay for rent, utilities, or other emergency needs. Income and program guides may apply. Availability of funding is limited, funds may not always be available. Apply Here for emergency services.
Emergency Furnace Repair
Applicants in owner-occupied homes and that are eligible participants of the South Dakota Low Income Energy Assistance Program (energy assistance) may qualify to have their furnaces repaired or replaced if the furnace is not operating or not operating properly. Please call GROW South Dakota, prior to having any work done on your furnace.
Weatherization Assistance Program
Weatherization is a service to assist individuals in providing energy efficient measures in their homes. A GROW South Dakota representative will conduct an energy audit on the home to determine what repairs are cost effective to increase energy efficiency and reduce the cost of utilities. Common repairs include: adding insulation in walls and attics, weather stripping doors and windows, minor repairs, and furnace repairs and replacements. Income guidelines determine eligibility.
Homeownership Education and Housing Counseling
GROW South Dakota is a HUD approved Housing Counseling Agency and Housing Education Resource Organization (HERO) offering individual and online education for homeownership. We also offer one on one pre-purchase, rental counseling, and financial management for homeowners.
If you are over 60 and income eligible, you may also qualify for a monthly free box of food. Apply Here for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. This program is subject to income limits. Assistance may vary throughout our 17 county service area.
