Description:

Weatherization Program: The residence is audited and a list of needs is developed. The program provides the materials and pays contractors for the labor to weatherize the home (caulk cracks, insulate, weather strip, fix windows, etc.). Furnaces can be repaired or replaced. Persons at or below 200% of poverty-level income or persons who are eligible for fuel assistance are eligible for the energy programs.

Garden Project: Eligible participants can receive a voucher to purchase garden seeds and/or live plants to plant in a garden and harvest the produce. Based on available funding, participants can get canning or preserving supplies.

Case Management and Protective Payee: The Case Manager works with the participants to create a self-sufficiency plan and may act as a protective payee. As a protective payee, the Case Manager controls the participant's income, pays bills, buys groceries, and in general, manages the participant's finances for a period of time while helping the participant learn how to manage his/her income.

ICARE Program: MidAmerican Energy Company uses both corporate funds and customer donations to help pay heating costs for low-income persons in MidAmerican's service area and who require financial assistance.

Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP): Assists persons who are at risk of homelessness and those who have become homeless. Services provided include: case management, security deposit and rent assistance, and short-term services to assist participants to retain their housing to avoid homelessness or to re-enter permanent housing as soon as possible.

ICAP's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers eligible tax filers in our service area the opportunity to meet with volunteers trained by the IRS to process their returns. Eligibility is based on a household income of less than $54,000. All assistance provided is confidential and each participant receives copies of their return for record-keeping purposes.

Free. Income guidelines apply on all programs.
