Description:
Avera Hospice focuses on caring for the terminally ill patient and caregivers. Avera's multi-disciplinary team of professionals and trained volunteers assists and supports the whole person -- mind, body and spirit. In addition to compassionate care, Avera professionals contribute important perspectives and knowledge when difficult decisions arise. The dedicated team involves a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, home health aides, homemakers, nutritionists, pharmacists, and volunteers to provide comprehensive end-of-life care. Team members help acquire bereavement support, grief counseling, and holistic care.
Palliative care is a special kind of health care for people who live with chronic, life-threatening or terminal illness. It provides the best quality of life for the patient with advanced disease or terminal illness by ensuring comfort and dignity. During palliative care, the patient's wishes are honored so that the patient can regain a sense of control. Avera Palliative Care Services staff members assist in defining wishes and facilitate discussion about health care decisions. Palliative care can be helpful any time pain or other symptoms require special care, not just for those nearing the end of life. Palliative care benefits the patient through pain management, symptom management, changing care needs, and patient and family support.
Patients are eligible for hospice care if they have a limited life expectancy and a doctor's authorization. Patients with life-threatening illness are eligible for palliative care.
We accept self-payment, insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and Veterans Administration.
